JD Vance, the U.S. vice president, said the war with the Islamic Republic has entered a different stage, and that Tehran, after losing its nuclear capability and weakening its military capacity, is trying to limit the supply of energy to the world and impose costs on the West, especially the United States.

In an interview with "Tonight" (Tonight’s), Vance said the United States first destroyed the Islamic Republic’s nuclear program and then targeted the regime’s ability to exert power in the Middle East.

He said: “Now they are much weaker in terms of conventional capability, their nuclear program has been destroyed, and now they are trying to create as much pain and damage as possible, and we are trying to prevent that.”

Vance said, regarding the war lasting longer, that Donald Trump entered this conflict with awareness of the circumstances.

Vance added that the Islamic Republic has shown it is willing to target neighboring countries and commercial shipping. He said U.S. energy facilities have not been targeted.

Vance said: “If the president of the United States decides to surrender and allows the Iranians to control the supply of world oil, then this war could end very quickly. I don’t think any American really wants to do that.”
