The spokesperson for Iran’s Islamic Republic water industry said that at present, 12 provinces in the country with low rainfall and 58 cities are facing water stress and it covers 35 million people.
Eisa Bozorgzadeh had previously said that Tehran, Qom, Markazi, Yazd, Semnan, Isfahan, Sistan and Baluchestan, Qazvin, Alborz, Mazandaran, Razavi Khorasan, and Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari have received less than the normal level of rainfall.
Tehran, Alborz, and Mashhad, as well as the cities of Arak and Saveh, are at the top of areas with high stress for drinking water.
Bozorgzadeh did not consider Iran’s entry into a period of above-normal rainfall as “absolutely correct” and emphasized that water consumption management remains necessary.
