Iraq’s Prime Minister’s Office announced on Friday, 10 Mehr, that the US government has agreed—at Baghdad’s request—to issue a waiver to carry out 40 daily flights by Iranian airlines to Najaf International Airport and from this airport. Mahan Air is not covered by this exemption.

Based on a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, the agreement was reached following follow-ups by the Iraqi government and contact with the relevant parties to resume flights by Iranian airlines to Najaf.

The Prime Minister’s Office welcomed the US government’s approval of the necessary waiver and said the decision will help facilitate travel between Iran and Iraq, including for treatment, religious travel, and tourism.

The office added that the Iraqi government will continue consultations with the relevant parties to remove obstacles to air transport.
