The Iran Human Rights Campaign said that since the start of the war, officials of the Islamic Republic have significantly intensified the domestic crackdown and have accelerated judicial handling of political cases.

The human rights organization added that long prison sentences and executions are issued in trials described as “politically motivated” and without fair trial proceedings, and in some cases defendants are sentenced based on coerced confessions taken under torture and pressure.

The Iran Human Rights Campaign also said that vague charges related to “national security” are increasingly being used to criminalize dissent and to issue rulings that can result in the death penalty.
