Iran Foreign Ministry Spokesperson: Talks with Oman on reopening the Strait of Hormuz

🔸Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson said on Tuesday, 13 Mordad, that talks with Oman about reopening the Strait of Hormuz are ongoing.

🔸Ismail Baqaii told IRIB that these negotiations “are being pursued with a focus on determining safe routes for ships to travel to and from.”

🔸By describing the talks positively, he said that “the national security considerations of Iran and Oman” are taken into account in them.

🔸Earlier, various reports in different media had been published about the progress of Iran-Oman talks and the possibility that they could reach a result within the coming hours.

🔸Without referring to those reports, the spokesperson for Iran’s Foreign Ministry said that “the final results of these negotiations will be communicated after the final review.”

🔸U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio had previously said that negotiations between Iran and Oman are underway, in which we are also involved, about how in the short term more ships can pass through the Strait of Hormuz with security.

🔸Hours before making these remarks, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent had said that the United States might reach an agreement with Iran by Wednesday to reopen the Strait of Hormuz; an agreement, he said, that could help stabilize energy prices.
