🔶 Increase in ship traffic via Bab el-Mandeb, continued restrictions on passage through the Strait of Hormuz

Initial data from the ship-tracking company “Kpler” shows that on Tuesday, July 28 (6 Mordad), 37 cargo ships transited through Bab el-Mandeb, the highest figure since July 19. By contrast, only five ships transited through the Strait of Hormuz.

Based on these data, no large oil tanker or liquefied natural gas (LNG) vessel transited through Bab el-Mandeb.

The figures are being reported as Yemen’s Houthis announced on Tuesday that they had “targeted” a tanker belonging to Saudi Arabia in the Red Sea with ballistic missiles.

Earlier, Reuters reported that Oman has presented a plan to Iran for joint management of the Strait of Hormuz, under which shipping companies pay voluntary fees for passage through this waterway.

However, a U.S. official told Reuters that any agreement under review would not include collecting any fees or charges for ships to pass through the Strait of Hormuz.
