🔻Hajji Dehlegani: Any agreement about Iran’s waters must be approved by four-fifths of Majlis lawmakers

We previously reported that Reuters, citing a senior Iranian official, said that Iran’s general plan in negotiations with Oman is that the route for the departure of ships from the Strait of Hormuz should be via Oman, and that Muscat would issue permission for ships to depart after informing Tehran.

Now an Iranian member of parliament has said that any agreement about Iran’s waters must be approved by four-fifths of the representatives.

Hoseinali Hajji Dehlegani told the Iran Watch news website: “Any agreement or document that violates the sovereignty of the Islamic Republic or transfers even a fraction or a centimeter of Iran’s waters to another party in an agreement is unconstitutional, and we will not accept this.”

According to him, “If any amendment is to be made in Iran’s territorial domain, including water, land, and air, it must be approved by four-fifths of the representatives.”

Hajji Dehlegani also said that a group of lawmakers is “compiling and collecting evidence” to impeach Abbas Araqchi, the foreign minister:

“People’s minds of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs have remained stuck in the Qajar era, and they are far behind developments.”
