🔶 Germany and three other countries react to the Democrats’ victory in the United States
Boris Pistorius, Germany’s defense minister, congratulated the Democrats on their election victory and on gaining a majority in both houses of the United States, calling it “historic.”
Speaking at the Berlin Security Conference, the Social Democratic Party politician said that the U.S. government would remain the same government, and that Germany would continue cooperation based on trust with it.
Pistorius added that he does not know how Donald Trump’s, the U.S. president’s, plans for the near future will be. However, the German government will try to remain closely engaged with both the Democrats and the Republicans.
But China took a cautious approach to the Democrats’ victory in the midterm elections for the U.S. Congress, calling it a “domestic matter” for the United States.
Mao Ning, a spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry in Beijing, told reporters that her country is ready to cooperate with the United States to implement agreements reached between leaders of the two countries, strengthen communications, and manage differences in an appropriate way.
