🔶 Hakeem Jeffries called the Democrats’ victory “America’s great comeback”
Hakeem Jeffries, the current leader of the Democrats in the U.S. House of Representatives, welcomed the outcome of the election after his party’s sweeping victory in midterm elections and said: “America is back.”
Following the Democrats’ victory in the House of Representatives, Jeffries became one of the options for the Speaker of the House. Despite the Democrats’ win in the midterm elections, Jeffries’ selection as Speaker of the House is not yet certain. After the new Congress begins work in January, he will also need to secure the necessary votes in a public vote by the House members. If he succeeds in getting the required votes, he will be the first Black Speaker of the House.
At a Democratic campaign rally, amid cheers and encouragement from the party’s supporters, Jeffries said: “Today marks the beginning of America’s great comeback.” He described the victory not as a party success, but as a “national and patriotic experience.”
The Democrats’ leader in the House also promised to work to bring about changes that the people of the United States want. He named as priorities of the party’s program cutting the costs of healthcare services, tackling the reduction of funding for government healthcare insurance imposed by Republicans, and fighting corruption among government officials.
Jeffries went on to say: “The people of America made their voices heard and clearly showed that they no longer want extremism and corruption. They want a Congress that works for the people of America.”
