Israel’s media, citing remarks by Yossi Cohen, the former head of the foreign intelligence organization of the country, have written that Mossad “repeatedly” visited the Fordo nuclear site in Iran, which was targeted by a U.S. bombing last year.

Walla, The Jerusalem Post and The Times of Israel wrote on Tuesday, August 11 (21 Mordad) that Cohen made these comments at the Galilee Assembly in the city of Safed.

According to these reports, Cohen said in Safed: “We visited the Fordo nuclear site many times in order to get to know this site well.”

He did not explain when these visits were carried out or exactly who visited these facilities.

The Jerusalem Post wrote that it is still unclear whether Cohen meant the physical presence of Mossad agents inside these facilities or some form of remote monitoring.

Referring to the bombing of the site, Cohen added: “The bombing of this site by the Americans fulfills all my dreams.”

These facilities, along with the sites in Isfahan and Natanz, were bombed by U.S. forces during the 12-day war, which began with Israel’s attack on Iran in June 2025, and were severely damaged.

The Times of Israel also wrote, referring to Cohen’s remarks, that reports indicate that 440 kilograms of highly enriched uranium that was being kept at these facilities was buried under the rubble; however, Israel believes that Iran transferred some of these materials to the Kouh Kelen site after that war.

At this assembly, Cohen, in relation to reports suggesting that Iranians were approaching the threshold for obtaining a nuclear bomb, said: “60 percent enriched uranium is still a long way from building a bomb.”

The Times of Israel writes that, however, this appears to contradict the view of experts such as David Albright.

Albright, a former inspector with the International Atomic Energy Agency, believes that uranium enriched to 60 percent can reach the level of enrichment needed to build a nuclear weapon within a few weeks, or even a few days.

Yossi Cohen has also previously spoken publicly about Mossad’s activities in Iran.

A few days after stepping down as head of Mossad in 2021, in an unusual interview with Israeli television, he revealed details of Mossad’s actions in Iran.

In an interview with the reporter of the program “Reality” or “Uvda” (Uvda) on Israel’s Channel 12, Cohen described in detail the theft of Iran’s nuclear program archive in Torqozabad, saying that vaults containing documents of Iran’s nuclear program archive were opened within a few minutes.

He also implicitly confirmed that Mossad blew up Iran’s underground facilities of centrifuges in Natanz.

Cohen confirmed that Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, Iran’s top nuclear scientist, had been on the list of Mossad targets and was under surveillance years before he was killed.

Fakhrizadeh was killed in a complex explosion and gunfire on the Firoozkuh road in November 2020 (Azar 1399).

Cohen also said that the Iranian government must understand that when Israel commits itself to preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon, it is taking this matter very seriously.

The Times of Israel writes that in the “Uvda” program, which is broadcast on Israel’s Channel 12 with the execution by Ilana Dayan, he also said that he has very deep knowledge of various Iranian nuclear sites.

Cohen told Dayan that if he gets the opportunity, he would take her to the “basement” of the Natanz facilities, where, according to him: “the centrifuges were turning.”
