Flights at Catania Airport in Italy were suspended on Wednesday, 21 Mordad, due to the renewed release of Etna volcano ash. Aviation authorities extended the airspace restrictions over eastern Sicily. The ashfall reaching the south also led to the cancellation and delays of some flights in Malta.

Mount Etna, the most active volcano in Europe, repeatedly disrupts operations at Catania Airport. In terms of passenger traffic, this airport is the fifth busiest in Italy.
