🔶 Execution of Arghavan Fallahi’s death sentence has been halted until another court is held

According to a report by the Emtedad news website, the execution of Arghavan Fallahi’s death sentence has been postponed until another court is convened.

Based on this report, Arghavan Fallahi’s retrial appeal has been under review in the Supreme Court of the Islamic Republic over the past few days, and the objections and challenges raised regarding the case have been accepted.

Under the law, if a retrial appeal is accepted, the execution of the death sentence is suspended and the case must be referred to a peer chamber for further consideration, so that with the holding of a new trial, a new verdict can be issued.

Arghavan Fallahi, a prisoner born in 1380, was first arrested in 1401 in connection with the “Woman, Life, Freedom” movement. She was then arrested again in Bahman 1403, and, by a ruling of Branch 15 of the Revolutionary Court, was sentenced to death for “membership in the People’s Mojahedin Organization” and on the charge of “baghi.” This verdict was upheld by Branch 41 of the Supreme Court, and her appeal was rejected.

In the laws of the Islamic Republic, the charge of “baghi” is defined as “armed uprising against the system,” and it can lead to a death sentence for the accused.
