🔶 Drone attack on two gas-carrying ships in Egypt’s Damietta port

Two ships on Wednesday, July 29, in one of Egypt’s ports, after an explosion occurred, suffered a fire. One of these two ships—which has been used as a storage facility for natural gas—belongs to an American company. According to observers, this incident has expanded the scope of fighting in the Middle East.

Three companies active in maritime tracking have reported on the incident. One of these companies said that the explosion in the “Damietta” port on the Mediterranean coast of Egypt was caused by a drone attack.

On Thursday, July 30, the Egyptian government said that the fire from the previous day in the Damietta port was the result of a drone attack; the first attack to target Egyptian territory since the start of the war in the Middle East.

Egyptian officials had previously reported that in the Wednesday fire, two gas-carrying ships were damaged.

In a statement, the Egyptian government said that initial investigations indicate the incident occurred “as a result of a drone attack,” but the statement says that so far no group or country has taken responsibility for it.

The statement added that investigations are continuing in order to “determine the scope of this incident and take the necessary measures to safeguard Egypt’s interests and the country’s national security.”
