Two Iranian sources told The New York Times that a drone attack on a liquefied natural gas (LNG) ship belonging to an American company in the Damietta port in Egypt was intended to show that global shipping and energy supply could face even more serious disruptions if Iran chose to escalate the conflict.

The sources did not say whether the attack was carried out by Iran or a militia group aligned with Iran, nor did they reveal the drone launch location.
