Donald Trump, the U.S. president, wrote on Truth Social that the representatives of the Islamic Republic have requested compensation for damages caused to Iran during the five months of military clashes, but that such a matter had never been raised in negotiations or previous meetings.
Trump wrote: “But it’s a interesting idea, because now I’m also asking Iran for compensation in the same way; compensation for people who were killed or severely injured in attacks involving roadside bombs and related clashes with the Islamic Republic, including the families of those killed on the U.S.S. Cole and the thousands of people who died in the clashes.”
He added that the Islamic Republic “should also pay compensation to the families of hundreds of thousands of innocent protesters who were killed over the past 50 years, as well as to the families of the 52,000 people who were killed during the past five months.”
At the end, Trump wrote: “I have instructed my representatives to raise this matter firmly in all future negotiations.”
