Donald Trump, the U.S. president, said at the White House that the Islamic Republic sometimes deploys sea mines in the Strait of Hormuz, but “U.S. forces have found these mines and cleared the entire strait.”
Trump emphasized that “the Strait of Hormuz is open” and that the United States has “full control” over it. He added that the United States allows passage to anyone who wants it, but does not allow ships to enter Iran through the strait.
Trump also said: “Iran can still cause trouble, but it is bankrupt—completely bankrupt. They don’t even pay their soldiers’ salaries, and they’re struggling with inflation.”
