China’s gross domestic product expanded 4.6% year-on-year in the first nine months of 2026, reaching more than 107 trillion yuan (US$16 trillion), according to new figures released by the National Bureau of Statistics.

Economic performance gained momentum in the third quarter with a 4.5% uptick, slightly exceeding the 4.3% growth recorded in Q2. Speaking at a press briefing in Beijing, NBS Deputy Chief Mao Shengyong attributed the steady performance to expanding foreign trade, robust industrial output, and emerging industrial growth drivers despite external pressures.
