Chief of Uganda’s Army Staff on Saturday, 10 Mordad, unveiled a statue to commemorate “Yoni Netanyahu” at the old Entebbe terminal, where he was killed during the rescue operation of passengers held hostage after the Air France flight in 1976.

Yoni Netanyahu, an Israeli army officer and the older brother of Benjamin Netanyahu, the current prime minister of Israel, commanded the Israeli forces in the Entebbe operation. In 1976, an Air France airplane en route from Tel Aviv to Paris was hijacked and transferred to Entebbe Airport in Uganda. Yoni Netanyahu, who led the main rescue team, was the only Israeli soldier killed in the operation.
