Chaos in Paris as protest turns violent
Riot police clashed with protesters at the end of a largely peaceful march over living standards in Paris on Saturday, attended by 110,000 people according to the interior ministry.
Police threw tear gas, and protesters launched projectiles and fired fireworks near officers as smoke drifted through the streets. Protesters smashed the shopfront of an Audi dealership, and some people took shelter in a fast food restaurant.
Nationwide, authorities deployed 10,000 more police and gendarmes than on October 17, when protests descended into some of the worst unrest in France in years.
Clashes also broke out in Marseille and Lyon, France's second and third cities.
