🔻British media reports that Ramón Vega, former Tottenham defender and Switzerland national team player, said he intends to run in the 2027 presidential election of the world football federation against Gianni Infantino.
🔹The 55-year-old announced his decision in a context in which senior football executives from Europe have gathered in Berlin to examine a new approach toward FIFA and to oppose some of the organization’s policies. He is the first figure to officially announce his intention to challenge Infantino.
🔹Vega, CEO and founder of an asset management company in Switzerland, accused FIFA’s current leadership of weakening football and said: “Weak governance has damaged FIFA’s credibility and destroyed the trust of the football family around the world. We must not allow this conflict to escalate.”
🔹Speaking about his goal for entering the election, he said: “Football should always be the priority, but disagreements have for a long time left the football family divided. Football is bigger than any position, person, or institution. Football belongs to the people and to everyone.”
