Baghayi: The geographical coordinates of a shipping route with Oman have been agreed

🔸The Iranian foreign ministry spokesperson says that the geographical coordinates of a shipping route through the Strait of Hormuz with Oman have been agreed upon, and that if third parties do not interfere, they are finalizing a joint statement.

🔸Ismail Baghayi, on Wednesday, 14 Mordad, told Iranian media that negotiations between Iran and Oman as two coastal states of the Strait of Hormuz have been ongoing over the past two months with the aim of determining a safe transit route for commercial shipping through this strait, and that its various technical, legal, security, and environmental dimensions have been examined in the relevant authorities of our country.

🔸He described the negotiations between Iran and Oman as “professional” and “forward-moving,” and stated that the joint statement of the two countries, including the main considerations and points agreed upon, is also in the stage of review and final drafting.

🔸He, while claiming that the closure of the Strait of Hormuz is due to the attack by the United States and Israel on Iran, said that “in principle, an Iran–Oman understanding by itself cannot mean that the strait will become safe for passing ships.”

🔸According to Baghayi, the reason is that “the factors that make the Strait of Hormuz insecure on the part of the United States, especially the maritime blockade and other threatening actions against Iran and its interests, still exist.”

🔸The Strait of Hormuz, which had been open before the attacks by the United States and Israel on Iran on 9 Esfand of last year, and through which about one-fifth of the world’s energy consumption passes daily, has been blocked many times by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

🔸Iran, which says that the passage of ships must be with its permission and has raised the issue of collecting fees from commercial ships, has repeatedly targeted ships that have been routed through the southern route (Oman).

🔸In response to these attacks, the United States targeted various positions along the Iranian coastline, as well as central and northern areas of the country, for nearly two weeks.

🔸Donald Trump, the U.S. president, has threatened that if Iran does not reopen the Strait of Hormuz, it will face devastating attacks.
