Axios reported that Asaad Al-Shaibani, Syria’s foreign minister, said the Syrian government remains interested in reaching an agreement with Israel to reduce tensions along the border between the two countries.
The foreign minister also said he had been in contact with the administration of Donald Trump, the U.S. president, before and after the attack. He added: “The main goal was to convey our position and concerns and to work to prevent the escalation of tensions.”
Al-Shaibani told Axios: “We made it clear to America that we do not trust Israel’s intentions toward Syria, and we believe that Israel’s current policy—including military escalation and its actions on the ground—does not help achieve stability in Syria or the region.”
