🔻 Ali Bagheri Kani, deputy secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, met today in Beijing with China’s foreign minister. Wang Li said in the meeting that China supports Iran in defending its sovereignty and security. A special envoy from China is also expected to soon travel to the Persian Gulf region and hold talks in Iran, Oman, and Saudi Arabia with senior officials of these countries. China previously played a role in efforts to mediate an end to the war between the United States and Israel with Iran, but now it appears that, as the likelihood of the war restarting grows, following the midterm elections in the U.S. Congress, officials in Beijing are preparing to play a more active role in this matter.
