🔻According to Iranian media, Abbas Abdī, journalist and political activist, was sentenced to one year of punitive imprisonment for publishing a note in the daily Etemad.
In this case, the daily Etemad was also sentenced to a two-month suspension of activity and publication.
In part of this note, which was published in Etemad on May 6, Abdī warned against the publication of “fake news” by some hardline representatives and said: “Under the name of representation, these people can say whatever they want, and no one in a position to correct them comes forward.”
Following the publication of this note, the Tehran Prosecutor’s Office launched an investigation into him and Etemad on several charges, including “creating a false duality and causing division among segments of society” and “spreading lies and statements contrary to the facts.”
