🔶 A drone found at Leipzig Airport with a “trigger” and an “unknown substance”

According to joint investigations by NDR, WDR and the newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung, airport staff in Leipzig discovered a modified drone that is said to have been positioned near an “Antonov” cargo aircraft made in Ukraine.

Based on a confidential police report, the drone had an “unknown substance” attached to it, which is believed to have been an explosive material. The report also states that “a trigger” was placed inside this substance.

According to one NATO spokesperson, the drone was seen near a Ukrainian aircraft. The newspaper Bild had reported the same earlier.

According to information released by security sources, the drone was examined using an X-ray device. Police described the incident as an “event with security dimensions.”

The explosives neutralization team was scheduled to detonate the drone in a controlled manner. For this purpose, an explosives neutralization robot was also used. According to officials, there is currently no urgent danger.

Leipzig police said this Wednesday morning, 5 August (14 Mordad), that flight operations at the airport had been temporarily suspended as a result of the incident. According to police, several aircraft, including a passenger plane, were diverted to other airports.
