At the height of military tensions in the Strait of Hormuz and the Bab al-Mandab, the UN Secretary-General, by publishing a message on the social network X, called for the realization of the rights and freedoms of international navigation.

Antonio Guterres, in his message, said: From Gaza to the wider crisis in the Middle East, and from Ukraine and Sudan to other places, our world needs peace.

He emphasized that governments must respect their commitments under the UN Charter and international law.

The UN Secretary-General described respect for the principle of sovereign equality of states, respect for territorial integrity and political independence of states, rights and freedoms of international navigation, the peaceful settlement of disputes, and international humanitarian law as among the most important of these obligations.
