▪Egyptian officials have rejected a proposal by the Houthis to establish direct communication and coordinate with the Suez Canal Authority regarding the situation of shipping in the Bab al-Mandab Strait and the Red Sea.

▪The proposal was conveyed to the Egyptian side via the International Chamber of Shipping in London, with the stated aim of establishing contact to coordinate the passage of ships through Bab al-Mandab and the Red Sea.

▪Al Arabi Al Jadeed, citing an Egyptian source, wrote that the head of the Suez Canal Authority has opposed establishing official contact with the Houthis. According to this source, Egypt does not want to create any basis for the group to be regarded as recognized, even by replying to a message or making a phone call.
