🔶 “No agreement about the Strait of Hormuz will be signed at the Monday meeting in Oman”

An Iranian senior official said on Saturday, September 21, that the Monday meeting (September 14) in Oman between Iran and Gulf countries is not expected to lead to the “signing of an immediate agreement about the Strait of Hormuz.”

Reuters, citing an Iranian senior official, reported that the meeting planned in Oman—where issues in the region, including the “status of the Strait of Hormuz,” will be discussed. The official, whose name was not disclosed, said the Monday meeting would be held at Oman’s initiative, but no agreement is expected to be signed at the end of it.

Iran had announced on Friday that it would take part in a meeting with Gulf countries in Oman. However, Oman has not yet officially announced the holding of this meeting. Oman had previously said that the talks would be supported by “other Gulf Arab countries.”

However, according to the Iranian official, one of the main disagreements remains: Tehran wants an agreement that would allow Iran to charge fees for ships transiting through the Strait of Hormuz, but Oman opposes this.
