🔶 U.S. limited oil tankers’ passage through the Strait of Hormuz to specific time windows

The United States, to ensure military protection for oil tankers transiting through the Strait of Hormuz, has asked them to limit their movement to “specific time windows.”

According to the Financial Times, Washington has asked tankers transiting through the Strait of Hormuz to move only at certain times. The aim of this measure is to make it possible to provide military protection for ships in conditions in which Iran’s attacks on passing vessels at night have increased.

Based on this report, since May the United States has provided air defense for ships intending to transit a route near the coasts of Oman in the southern part of the Strait of Hormuz.

In recent months, this route has been cited as one of the safer ways for ships to pass through the Strait of Hormuz.

The Financial Times, citing emails sent from the U.S. Maritime Coordination Center to shipping advisors, wrote that the protection period for ships has been made more limited from early September.

Based on the report, ships can now receive U.S. military support only during two specific time windows each day.
