Mojtaba Mahmudiyan, a civil activist, said that Alireza Sepahi, one of the Dey protests detainees, has been transferred from the general ward of Isfahan’s Dastgerd prison to solitary confinement, and that his execution sentence may be carried out within the coming hours or days.
Mahmudiyan said that the transfer of prisoners sentenced to death to solitary confinement is usually the last stage before an execution. So far, Islamic Republic judicial officials have not commented on Sepahi’s transfer or the possible timing of his execution.
According to Mahmudiyan, Sepahi and a number of other defendants in this case were tortured during their detention, and officers also tortured his mother in front of his eyes. He added that, at the trial, some of the defendants spoke about torture, sexual assault, and threats of rape in order to obtain confessions from one another, and that a significant part of the case and the sentences handed down were based on those confessions.
Alireza Sepahi had previously been scheduled to be executed together with Abolfazl Sepahi and Amirhossein Safri, but according to Mahmudiyan, before the execution he suffered a heart attack and was taken to the hospital. Abolfazl Sepahi and Amirhossein Safri were executed the same day, and after treatment Alireza Sepahi was returned to prison.
