Two security sources told Reuters that Iraq, after a drone attack on a Saudi oil pipeline, closed the Shalamcheh border crossing with Iran as a precaution.
According to the sources, Iraqi forces have launched a wide-ranging operation at the same time to identify and pursue the perpetrators of the attack. Iraqi officials have not released any further details about this operation so far.
Saudi Arabia had announced on Friday, 20 Shahrivar, that the country’s strategic “east to west” pipeline had been targeted by drones that had taken off from Iraqi territory.
The “east to west” pipeline carries oil from eastern regions of Saudi Arabia to Yanbu port on the Red Sea coast and is considered one of the country’s main oil export routes.
