🔻Will Florida’s Latinos still support Trump despite raids by Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers?
The raids and arrests by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers have brought one of the country’s most important political issues into the neighborhoods and homes of many Florida Latino families.
For many, the actions of ICE are a personal experience and affect their relatives and friends.
This impact is felt even among groups that traditionally have experienced more favorable treatment from the U.S. immigration authorities.
Among them are Cuban Americans, many of whom supported Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump in the 2024 election.
Latino families in Florida have been affected directly and indirectly by the Trump administration’s restrictions on asylum.
The big question for this Florida election is: Will growing disillusionment with Trump turn into votes for Democrats? How many Latino voters, especially Cuban and Venezuelan Americans in Florida, will remain loyal to the Republicans?
While some may disagree with Trump’s immigration policies, others may not want to weaken his political standing, because they fear that in practice he could run into problems with his promises regarding political and economic relations with Cuba and Venezuela.
