🔻The most populous state in the United States goes to the polls
🖋David Willis, Los Angeles
🔻A short time ago, polling stations opened in California, the most populous state in the United States. This comes as, the day before, the country’s Supreme Court rejected the Trump administration’s emergency request to intervene in a dispute over thousands of mail ballots.
The Trump administration says that mail ballots have been issued for thousands of “non-citizens” in this state.
In California, nearly 26 million people are registered to vote. California is considered a Democratic stronghold and has 52 seats in the House of Representatives; a figure that Democrats hope to change in their favor.
In this state, in addition to electing the successor to Gavin Newsom, governor of California, and determining the outcome of the race for mayor of Los Angeles, voters are being asked to consider more than a dozen other measures at the ballot, including a proposal for a one-time tax on billionaires to fund health care and education.
