🔻Which system protects Mecca and other holy cities of Saudi Arabia?

A military coalition supporting a government internationally recognized in Yemen claimed that Saudi Arabia’s air defense forces intercepted and destroyed a drone launched by the Houthis before it entered Mecca’s airspace.

Although the Houthis of Yemen denied the claim, since the release of these reports, not only has there been extensive discussion about Saudi Arabia’s defense capabilities, but the question has also arisen as to which air defense systems Riyadh uses in Mecca and in its other cities to counter air threats.

Saudi Arabia has not announced which defense system it used to shoot down the alleged drone.

However, the country’s Ministry of Defense had published a video in May this year showing multiple missile launch platforms, radar systems, and large anti-aircraft guns.

The Saudi Ministry of Defense has said that air defense forces equipped with these weapons are responsible for “protecting the sacred sites and countering air threats.”
