Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, in a message on the social network X, described the Houthi attack on Riyadh airport as the group’s “deadliest” attack on this airport to date and as a sign of a dangerously escalating level of tensions.

While expressing condolences to the victims and their families, she emphasized Europe’s solidarity with Saudi Arabia and the people of this country, and said that attacks by proxy forces of the Islamic Republic are pushing the region toward a cycle of violence.

Von der Leyen also warned that these attacks destabilize vital transport and energy hubs around the world, and that their consequences are felt across the globe.
