Mays Sato, the UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Iran, in reaction to the publication of news about the execution of the death sentence of “Alireza Sepahi,” an anti-government protester from December 2025 (Dey 1404), wrote on X: “This case has been accompanied by serious concerns about how the accused were treated and about fair trial.”

Sato also wrote that Alireza Sepahi was arrested at his home in Dey 1404, and that he is one of at least 12 defendants who were sentenced to death in connection with the case involving the deaths of four Law Enforcement Force officers in Aliakhani Square.

The UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Iran added: “According to reports, Alireza Sepahi’s mother was tortured in front of him, and he himself and his cousin were subjected to beatings and torture in front of their families.”

Despite reports by some human rights media about the execution of the death sentence of Alireza Sepahi and Alireza Reisi, two Dey 1404 protesters, the Islamic Republic’s judiciary, contrary to its usual practice, has not yet commented on the execution of the death sentences of these protesters.
