🔶 U.S. Supreme Court rejects Trump administration request to discard California mail-in votes

The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday, November 2 (11 Aban), on the eve of midterm elections in this country, rejected the Trump administration’s urgent request not to count about 20,000 mail-in votes in the state of California.

The Trump administration claims these ballots may belong to people whose U.S. citizenship has not yet been fully reviewed and confirmed. The administration sought that these votes not be considered until the official verification of citizenship for these citizens was completed.

Supreme Court decisions in this matter, as in the usual process for ruling on emergency requests, are very brief and without providing an explanation. None of the justices has publicly disagreed with the decision so far. The U.S. Supreme Court also did not ask the state of California to take a position regarding the administration’s request. Such a request could have signaled a serious review of this emergency case.

California is the most populous U.S. state and one of the Democratic Party’s strongholds.
