🔸Turkish police raided the building of the “Halk (People) TV” television network early Wednesday, 22 Mehr, and halted the channel’s live broadcasts at the same time as a caretaker was appointed to run the network.

🔸According to Turkish media, police officers entered the Halk TV building and prevented employees from entering their workplace. The channel’s live broadcast was cut off at around 6:30 a.m. local time, and pre-recorded programs replaced it.

🔸Halk TV is one of the best-known opposition-to-the-government networks under Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and widely covers the positions of opposition parties, especially the Republican People’s Party.

🔸The Turkish government considers these actions to be the enforcement of laws and the handling of violations, but opposition parties and media freedom advocacy organizations describe them as part of the process of restricting independent and critical media.

🔸In the Reporters Without Borders 2025 ranking on press freedom, Turkey was placed 159th among 180 countries.
