The US State Department revoked visas for 17 Latin American officials, including a judge and a prosecutor, on corruption charges.
According to a Monday report by Bloomberg based on a statement from the ministry, the individuals whose visas were revoked are from Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru, and, according to Washington, were involved in corrupt actions and undermined democratic governance.
The United States also barred the entry of Roxer María Caca, Bolivia’s attorney general, and members of her family, accusing her of taking bribes to facilitate drug trafficking and of helping “the escape of violent criminals from justice.”
The statement, attributed to Donald Trump, the president of the United States, and Marco Rubio, the secretary of state, said: “Corrupt officials and criminals who support them are not welcome in the United States.”
