The U.S. Treasury Department announced on Thursday, 23 Mehr, that the network to counter financial crimes of this ministry, within the framework of economic expulsion operations, has warned about the possible misuse by the Iranian government of religious charities.

The U.S. Treasury Department wrote that the Iranian government uses funds paid in the form of alms (khums) by the Shiite global community to advance its destabilizing activities.

The U.S. Treasury Department wrote that in some cases, organizations collecting these funds act on behalf of prominent Iranian clerics who are connected to the government. These institutions may use informal financial channels such as money remittances (informal financial remittances) and cash transfers to transfer funds to Iran or to persons and groups related to Iran.

The ministry also announced that the warning from the U.S. network to counter financial crimes includes red flags that help financial institutions identify, prevent, and report these unlawful activities.
