The New York Times reported that Ali al-Zaydi, the prime minister of Iraq, has pledged to disarm and put an end to Iran’s proxy paramilitary groups by the end of June 2027, on 10 Tir 1406.

According to al-Zaydi’s plan, a 90-day period of halting attacks will be carried out first, and then the armed groups will begin handing over their weapons.

According to this report, the Iraqi government intends to integrate members of these groups individually into the Popular Mobilization Forces (al-Hashd al-Shaabi) and to declare as illegal any groups that continue to operate independently after the deadline.

The Iraqi prime minister also said that the war between the United States and the Islamic Republic has reduced the monthly income from Iraq’s oil exports by 60%, and that Tehran, despite close relations between the two countries, does not allow Iraqi oil tankers to pass through the Strait of Hormuz.
