Homid Memariyan, a political analyst at the Dan Institute, said that the Human Rights Council’s Fact-Finding Mission report on the crackdown on protests increases political pressure on the Islamic Republic and makes Tehran’s efforts to reduce international pressure at the United Nations General Assembly more difficult. He added that the allegations raised in this report could affect the Islamic Republic’s relations with other countries.

Memariyan also said that the government has expanded the scope of the crackdown and criminalization by citing security considerations. He warned that the new law related to “infiltration” could also target communications between Iranian citizens and civil institutions with media and international organizations.
