📻 The Jam-e Jahan-Nama program podcast, Monday 20 Mehr 1405
The Iran Organization of Program and Budget has asked about 40 million people to fill out forms of self-disclosure in order to increase the value of the food basket (kala-berg). According to critics, this increase does not match the rise in inflation and the cost of living. The government spokesperson said that the amount of this increased credit would be 500,000 tomans, but it has not yet been finalized. The decision comes at a time when the government has not yet settled accounts with a number of food basket sellers that are under contract. Now it is unclear where the financial resources for the new increase will come from.
Also on the Jam-e Jahan-Nama program of BBC Persian, we discussed what options Saudi Arabia has in response to the back-to-back attacks by Yemen’s Houthis. We also examined the confirmations and denials regarding news about the closure of two sports complexes—Enqelab (Revolution) and Keshvari (Country)—due to not observing the hijab. This comes after a few days following the cancellation of the Iranian women’s muay thai championship matches in Qom, which was called off after a group protest in which chants were shouted and stones were thrown.
