“An impact that endured”; this phrase comes from Ali Khamenei’s message after the killing of Yahyah Sinwar. Khamenei called Sinwar “a shining figure of resistance” and described the October 7 attack as “an irreparable blow.”

Now the same line is being repeated on billboards in Iran; an attack in which civilians were killed and hostages were taken is, in the official narrative of the Islamic Republic, being praised as a victory. Who paid the price of this “blow”?
