🔻 The G7 condemns Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia and calls on Iran to “stop sending weapons” to the group

The foreign ministers of the G7 member countries called the Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia “unacceptable” and condemned them. The G7 also urged Iran to refrain from supporting and arming the Houthis.

In a statement, the foreign ministers of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States wrote: “We call on the Houthis to immediately end all military actions, threats, and attacks against civilian shipping and to return to the political process in good faith.”

They also asked Iran to stop “arming” and “supporting” the Houthis, accusing Tehran of violating previous UN Security Council resolutions through these actions.

Iran, while rejecting the sending of weapons and military support for the Houthis, says its support for the Houthis is political. In recent weeks, the Houthis have seized ports and strategic islands overlooking the Bab al-Mandab.
