🔻The boy whose voice had been lost is now teaching others to speak

🔻When Sueil Ahmad was five years old, those around him were eagerly waiting for him to say a word. He heard the things others told him in his mind, but the words would not come out of his mouth.

He says: “When I look back and remember that period, it feels like I was paralyzed. You were really there, but at the same time you weren’t. You were in the room, but it was as if you weren’t in that room.”

He says: “Everyone is waiting for you to say something. You look at yourself, as if you’re watching yourself from the outside, and you tell yourself: ‘Come on, say something.’ But you don’t do it and you can’t do it.”

Now, more than four decades later, this long journey for Sueil Ahmad, a general practitioner in Bradford and a social activist, has reached a successful point; he is set to soon be one of the keynote speakers at a TEDx event at the Bradford Arts Centre. Sueil is set to give a speech titled ‘The Silent Boy,’ and this will be the first time he will publicly share his childhood experiences with an audience.
