Taiwan’s defense minister said arms-sales negotiations with the United States are continuing and that after the Washington meeting between U.S. and Chinese leaders, he was assured that U.S. policy toward Taiwan has not changed.
According to Reuters, Wellington Ku told reporters at the Taipei parliament on Tuesday: “We are in ongoing dialogue with the American side regarding current cases related to military sales. As far as I know, we have not received any notice about changes.”
In May, after a trip to Beijing, U.S. President Donald Trump said he was keeping Taiwan’s $14 billion arms package on hold. After last week’s meeting with Xi Jinping, he only said that China’s leader understands his stance on Taiwan.
