The spokesperson of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s Foreign Ministry claimed that, in the current stage, negotiations with the United States are not on the agenda, and that a possible agreement with Oman for reopening the Strait of Hormuz is not sufficient.

Ismail Baghaei claimed that negotiations between the Islamic Republic and Oman are being pursued seriously, but only regarding the Strait of Hormuz and talks between the two coastal states to determine a safe route for maritime traffic.

He announced that the aforementioned negotiations are focused on reaching an understanding on a route that would “temporarily” ensure safe passage for maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz.

Baghaei, however, said that agreement on the transit route and ensuring safe passage for maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz is a necessary condition for reopening the strait, but not a sufficient one, because, according to his claim, the Strait of Hormuz has not been closed due to differences between Iran and Oman, but because it “encountered problems” due to military attacks by the United States and Israel.

The spokesperson of the Islamic Republic’s Foreign Ministry claimed that matters related to relations between the Islamic Republic and the United States will be examined in later stages and in accordance with the circumstances.
