A spokesperson for the coalition led by Saudi Arabia said that the Kingdom’s air defense intercepted and destroyed a hostile drone in the Riyadh area. Tyrki Al-Maliki wrote on X that the interception shrapnel in Riyadh did not harm anyone, and that the relevant local authorities are in possession of the matter.
The coalition also announced on Friday, 8 Aban, that it intercepted and destroyed a ballistic missile aimed toward the southern region, drones over Medina and Riyadh, and a drone in the Mecca region.
In the early hours of Saturday, 9 Aban, two other drones were brought down—one in the Eastern Province and the other in the south of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The Eastern Province is the economic heart of Saudi Arabia. Most of the kingdom’s oil and gas reserves are located there, and the center of Aramco is also in this province—where, previously, it suffered extensive damage in an attack.
The Houthis’ attacks on Saudi cities, airports, and energy infrastructure have been ongoing for weeks.
On Friday, Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, Saudi Arabia’s foreign minister, met in Atlanta with his American, Russian, European, and Canadian counterparts. During his meeting with Canada’s foreign minister, both sides condemned the “continuation of attacks by terrorist Houthi militants on Saudi Arabia.”
