Shayan Samiei, a national security expert, said that the Islamic Republic pursues three goals at the United Nations: “the war of narratives,” “back-channel diplomacy,” and “bargaining to reduce pressure.”

He added that Tehran is trying to prevent diplomatic isolation by having Pezeshkian and Iraqchi participate, and to turn the current crisis into leverage for negotiations.
